Some dogs have to wait a little longer for their forever homes, but when it finally happens, all the endless days of hope and waiting become worth it. Major is one such lucky dog. After spending over a year at a shelter, his meant-to-be human finally appeared.

Before becoming a beloved resident at the Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS), Major and his brother, Hilo, were at a local shelter in Quincy, Illinois. If not for a timely rescue, both dogs would have faced euthanasia.
Known for their friendly and playful natures, Major and Hilo quickly became favorites at the shelter. The NAHS team shared a video showcasing their charming personalities, emphasizing the dogs’ qualities to potential adopters.
“This weekend, they will have officially hit their 365-day mark at NAHS and we can’t understand why. So, we put this video together of some of our staff and volunteers, the ones who know them best, to share with you all the great things they have to offer,” they wrote.
Overlooked Without a Valid Reason

No one at the shelter could understand why Major was consistently overlooked by potential adopters. He was well-mannered, easy to maintain, and incredibly friendly.
“Don’t tell the other dogs – he’s the smartest one here!” said Winston, a volunteer at NAHS. “He’s such a lovebug, and everybody here at the shelter wants him to have his own family,” added Jane, another volunteer. Pam, another caregiver, noted, “Major is the sweetest little boy.”
The Day Finally Arrives

On a Wednesday, exactly 372 days after Major first arrived at the shelter, Jose, a semi-trailer truck driver who recently lost his dog, visited NAHS to adopt a new companion. The staff immediately introduced him to Major, and the two clicked instantly. After the initial introduction, it was clear Major was the perfect match for Jose.

The shelter staff organized a touching farewell for Major, allowing him to say goodbye to his favorite volunteers. After bidding his friends farewell, Major happily jumped into the truck with his new dad.

Seeing Major snuggle up to Jose through the truck window was heartwarming. He seemed at peace, happy to be in the arms of his forever owner, with a big smile on his face.
Endless Adventures on the Road

Though his address is no longer in Naperville, Illinois, Major is thrilled to embark on new adventures with Jose. “We just heard from Major’s new dad that Major is doing GREAT! Major can jump out of the truck by himself now and LOVES to snuggle with his new owner at night in the cabin. We are so thrilled to hear that Major is enjoying his exciting life on the road,” the NAHS wrote.
Major is living life to the fullest, making every day a new adventure, and never stops smiling.
